On the second day of 2026, the cedi remains stable at GH¢10.45 to $1.

In comparison to the Bank of Ghana’s 1.05 pesewa spread, the dollar was being purchased at GH¢11.90 and sold at GH¢12.35 at forex bureaus.

The euro fluctuated between GH¢15.80 and GH¢16.70 at bureaus, while the pound sterling fluctuated between GH¢13.80 and GH¢14.70.

Strong demand and a shortage of foreign currency, particularly as the new fiscal year gets underway, are reflected in the somewhat higher rates.

Market observers anticipate the possible effects of impending monetary policy choices and foreign inflows on the currency’s performance, and the Bank of Ghana is anticipated to maintain its interventions in the upcoming months to control volatility.

Ghana’s cedi has strengthened sharply to GH¢10.65 per dollar with just two days left in 2025, marking one of its strongest performances in recent weeks.

This notable appreciation is attributed to increased stability and renewed confidence in the local currency toward the end of the year.

As a result, the stronger cedi is expected to provide relief on fuel prices, as petroleum products are priced in dollars, which could help contain transportation costs and reduce operational expenses for businesses.

The cedi’s significant gains during the festive period are expected to support consumer purchasing power and offer much-needed relief to households and businesses as 2025 comes to an end.

The currency’s firming position is also expected to moderate the cost of imported goods, including food, clothing, electronics, and household items, which typically experience heightened demand during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

According to the Bank of Ghana, the cedi was trading at GH¢10.65 to the US dollar as of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, with buying at GH¢10.64 and selling at GH¢10.65. In contrast, forex bureaus were buying at GH¢12.10 and selling at GH¢12.45.

The cedi’s recent strength is a welcome sign for businesses, investors, and consumers alike, but lasting stability depends on fiscal discipline, monetary credibility, and productive investment in local industries.

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) have announced that prices of goods will start reducing within the next two months as the cedi continues to strengthen.

This is expected to bring relief to consumers who have been grappling with high prices of goods and services
